Nenneh Cheyassin Secka-Kebe, vice president of the Golden Era Party, has hit back at Dr Ismaila Ceesay, Minister of Information, over his claims that her comments about the First Lady’s office spending were false.

Mrs Secka-Kebe reportedly claimed that the office of the First Lady spends 150,000 dalasis daily, which Dr Ismaila Ceesay dismissed as false.

Secka-Kebe questioned the minister’s dismissal, citing public records and national budget allocations that, she says, reveal disproportionate spending on the presidency and the First Lady compared with critical sectors like agriculture.

“I don’t know what kind of food this lady will be buying,” Secka-Kebe said.

“But Gambians have good memory, and I promise you the internet remembers too. Just look at the budget today. How much is allocated to agriculture to feed the nation, and how much is allocated to feed the President? It’s much more than what is allocated to agriculture.”

She also pointed to Dr Ceesay’s past positions, noting that statements he made before joining government are public.

“Is he telling the truth now, or was he telling the truth then? We’ll let the Gambian people decide,” she added.

“The truth should not change depending on where you sit.”

Her intervention has reignited debate over government spending priorities and transparency.
