The Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, has confirmed that the installation of a new athletics track at the Independence Stadium forms part of the ongoing renovation works.

According to the Minister, the contractor is expected to deliver the container carrying the new track materials by 10th February, after which installation will commence.

“The tracks are part of the current phase of renovation. The expectation is that the container with the tracks will arrive on the 10th of February. By then, the old broken tracks would have been removed and the ground prepared for the installation of the new tracks,” Minister Badjie said.

The minister added that preparatory works, including the removal of the damaged track and ground preparation, will be completed ahead of installation to ensure a smooth process.
