Pa Samba Jow, US-based Gambian activist, has condemned The Gambia government for arresting human rights activist Madi Jobarteh.

Mr Jobarteh was arrested on Monday after he was invited for questioning by the police over unidentified Facebook posts.

His arrest has been condemned among dozens of Gambians including activists and some journalists.

Pa Samba Jow, a Gambian political activist based in the United States said: “Madi Jobarteh’s arrest is nothing but an attempt to silence and intimidate him. It is ridiculous to suggest that his recorded conversation with the police was enough reason for the police to drag him out of his sick bed for questioning.

“Madi cannot and will never be broken or intimidated by these Jammeh tactics. I stand with Madi.”

According to him, if every Gambian respected the constitution and laws of our country like Madi,”we would have a Gambia where every citizen’s rights are respected and protected without fear, favour, or ill will.”
