Police have arrested several suspected members of the alleged “Oryx Gang” during an intelligence-led operation in the Kanifing Region as part of an ongoing crackdown on organised criminal groups.

According to the Gambia Police Force, the suspects are believed to be linked to a series of alleged offences, including stealing, public nuisance, intimidation and other acts capable of disturbing public peace and security.

The suspects are currently in police custody assisting investigators. Police said they will be formally charged and prosecuted if sufficient evidence is established at the conclusion of investigations.

The arrests come amid intensified security operations across the Kanifing Region, where police have increased intelligence-led operations, joint patrols and targeted crime prevention activities in response to reported incidents of theft, assault, burglary and other criminal offences.

The Gambia Police Force said it remains committed to identifying and dismantling criminal groups whose activities threaten public safety, adding that proactive policing measures will continue across the country to protect lives, safeguard property and maintain law and order.

Police also thanked members of the public for their continued cooperation and urged residents to promptly report criminal and suspicious activities to assist ongoing efforts to combat crime.
