Police have intensified their crackdown on crimes amid a rise in daylight robbery.

A woman told Gambiana that two girls were robbed around Tippa Garage in broad daylight.

“These girls were attacked by boys and their bags were taken from them forcefully. They shouted for help but everyone was afraid to help them. I saw this with my eyes,” the woman told Gambiana.

Just few minutes on, a police pick-up passed us with boys handcuffed on the back of the vehicle as two personnel of the Police Intervention Unit guard them.

The Gambia has seen a rise in violent crimes like killings, stabbing, stealing and robbery since 2017.
