Gambian rapper Ali Cham, known as Killa Ace, has expressed his gratitude to Gambians who supported him financially and emotionally during what he described as one of the most difficult periods of his life.

The outspoken artist said the funds and encouragement he received were more than just material support, but a reflection of the “indomitable spirit” of the Gambian people.

Killa Ace rose to prominence in 2015 with his song Kou Boh Kah Si Gettaa Be, which openly criticised former president Yahya Jammeh’s government. The track made him a target of the authorities, forcing him into exile.

Although he returned after the change of government in 2017, he said he continued to face humiliation, disrespect and abuse. Despite this, he vowed to continue his fight for justice and equality.

He announced plans to use the money raised to support prison rehabilitation initiatives, assist young ex-offenders with skills training, and share part of the proceeds with fellow detainees.

Quoting late US congressman John Lewis, he said it was an honour “to stir good trouble” alongside Gambians who believe in justice and fairness.

Killa Ace added that he would remain committed to his country, saying: “no matter the challenges I face, I will strive to live a life of dignity and will persist without relent until injustice and suffering cease to exist.”
