Following The Gambia U-17’s emphatic 4–0 victory over Liberia in the WAFU A U-17 AFCON qualifiers, assistant coach Lamin Sanneh expressed confidence and determination ahead of their decisive final group match against hosts Mali.

“Mali are the host country and were runners-up in the just-concluded AFCON. It’s not going to be an easy match, but we’re hopeful our boys will give them a good fight for their money,” Sanneh said.

“We will do everything humanly possible to achieve the result that will take us to the next stage. We will show them our worth when we meet.”

The Scorplings currently sit third in the group with three points and a +2 goal difference, behind Mali (4 points, +6) and Guinea-Bissau (4 points, +2). Liberia remain bottom with no points and a -10 goal difference.

The Gambia will need a strong result against Mali to keep their qualification hopes alive, while Guinea-Bissau face Liberia in the other group fixture.
