The Judiciary of The Gambia has announced that the Official Opening of the Legal Year 2026 will be held on Sunday, 25th January 2026, at the Law Courts Complex on Independence Drive, Banjul.
The ceremony, which marks the formal start of the judicial calendar, is being conducted with the approval of His Excellency, the President of the Republic of The Gambia.
It will bring together members of the Bench and Bar, representatives from the Executive and Legislature, development partners, members of the diplomatic corps, and other key stakeholders in the justice sector.
This year’s opening will also launch a week-long programme of activities aimed at strengthening the administration of justice in the country.
The schedule will feature the official inauguration of the Special Criminal Division of the High Court at Bakau Mile 7, training and capacity-building programmes for Judges, Magistrates, and members of the Gambia Bar Association, stakeholder engagements, judicial planning sessions, and initiatives designed to enhance access to justice and improve judicial efficiency.
The event provides an important platform for the Judiciary to reflect on its achievements over the past year, outline priorities for 2026, and reaffirm its commitment to the fair and efficient delivery of justice across The Gambia.
Honourable Chief Justice Hassan B. Jallow has extended a warm invitation to members of the legal profession, civil society organizations, development partners, stakeholders, the media, and the general public to attend and participate in this key national event.
