Fabakary B Ceesay, owner of Trumpet online newspaper, has been arrested and detained at the Police headquarters in Banjul.

“Colleagues I am been [sic] arrested by police taking to police headquarters,” Mr Ceesay sent an alert to a Gambian journalists Whatsapp group shortly before his phone was off.

Police declined to reveal reasons of his arrest.

But police spokeswoman Cadet ASP Binta Njie told reporters that “he is currently with us and his matter is under investigation.”

The Gambia Press Union has reacted to the arrest by sending the union’s President Muhammed S Bah and his deputy Isatou Keita who are at the police headquarters to get journalist Fabakary B Ceesay release.

Journalists still face arrest and detention under Barrow government after dozens of them were exiled by the regime of former President Yahya who currently lives in exile in Equatorial Guinea.
