Two hyenas once kept by ex-Gambian President Yahya Jammeh have died of suspected starvation, while the remaining three are now surviving on expired chickens and other dead animals.

Jammeh, who went into exile in 2017 after losing power, left behind a private zoo at his Kanilai compound.

The zoo originally housed five hyenas, but only three remain alive, and they are struggling to survive.

The former president’s vast fortune was seized amid allegations that he looted state resources.

Controversy deepened when some officials tasked with investigating his assets were accused of misappropriating them.

Furious Gambians protested under the banner of Gambians Against Looted Assets, prompting dozens of arrests.

Under mounting pressure, President Adama Barrow launched a parliamentary inquiry to examine the investigators themselves.

During a recent tour of Jammeh’s assets, MPs discovered shocking neglect at the Kanilai zoo, where many wild animals are suffering or have already died.

The surviving hyenas are reportedly forced to scavenge spoiled food just to survive.
