The race to lead the United Democratic Party (UDP) is officially on. ANM Ousainu Darboe, Borry Touray, and Amadou Sanneh have successfully cleared the party’s rigorous interview and public vetting stages, the Central Committee confirmed on Monday.

The vetting process was designed to test the candidates’ leadership skills, policy vision, and ability to connect with the public.

Only the strongest and most capable candidates made it through, setting the stage for a tense final showdown.

Next, the trio’s names will be submitted to the party’s selection committee for final approval.

If the committee fails to reach a consensus, UDP members will go to the polls in a primary election to decide who will lead the party into the next national elections.

The process highlights the party’s commitment to democratic principles, ensuring that the ultimate decision reflects the will of its members.

Party insiders say the upcoming weeks will be crucial, as candidates intensify efforts to win support both within the party and among the wider public.

With the flagbearer race heating up, all eyes are now on Darboe, Touray, and Sanneh as they prepare for the next stage in the battle for UDP leadership.
