Ousainou Darboe

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has confirmed 11 candidates for its 2026 presidential flagbearer contest, highlighting a mix of political experience, professional expertise, and grassroots support.

Among the applicants are ANM Ousainu Darboe, the party’s secretary-general, and Talib Ahmed Bensouda, mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council.

Other candidates include seasoned lawyers Borry S Touray and Dr. Lamin J Darboe, businessman Lamin Jawara, and national treasurer Amadou Sanneh.

The party’s parliamentary representation is also reflected, with Sulayman Saho, a sitting member of the National Assembly, entering the race.

Additionally, Lamin NS Ceesay, Lamin Jobe, Karamo Fatty, and Dr. Muhammad Danjo, a medical doctor, have submitted their applications.

The UDP said all applications were received within the stipulated deadline and will undergo the party’s vetting process ahead of the election.

Officials described the process as “transparent and competitive,” aimed at selecting a candidate capable of leading the party to victory.

The party has called on members to engage in the process constructively, emphasizing unity and discipline ahead of the upcoming 2026 presidential election.
