Veteran Gambian journalist and cultural advocate Sam Sarr has been selected as a panelist for a global symposium in Belize.
The event, organised by the Larubeya Foundation, will be held in November under the theme “Turning the Legacy: From Stigma to Strategy” and will bring together speakers from Belize and the African diaspora to discuss how communities can transform inherited stigmas into strategies for empowerment and cultural pride.
Mr Sarr’s participation is supported by NACTIP, Promote West Africa, and the Jendalma Business and Communication Network.
Michael Zuniga, chairperson of the Larubeya Foundation, said Sarr’s inclusion highlights the cultural bridge between The Gambia and Belize, describing both nations as connected by shared history, resilience and vision.
The foundation said Sarr will share insights on storytelling, creative industries and media as tools for transformation, healing and unity.
The symposium will be streamed internationally and followed by a series of cultural events in Dangriga, Belize, including the Proudly Garifuna Experience and Larubeya Link-Up.
The Larubeya Foundation is a Belize-based nonprofit that promotes African Caribbean and Indigenous cultural heritage through education, exchange and creative enterprise.
